An explanation..

What we're doing here is controlling Ardour with Reacivion via TUIO.
Ardour sends "feedback" just as it would for any other control surface, only the feedback (gain, pan, metering) is sent to a visualisation app via OSC. This is projected onto a 20m dome (one of the many amazing things that the Figure 8 lads do). The position of the track visualisations correspond to the stereo position of each sound (when its set up properly).
This is us getting set up for some performances with it. The beamers aren't in the right positions etc. in these shots, but you get the idea.

..and another.

Mike with Chairman Mao the cat
We had the pleasure of Mike Taht's company last week. Mike is an incredible programmer. He's the only guy I know who has programmed something that flies in space.
We recorded some backing tracks for some of his songs, and on the way discussed changes that would improve Ardour's useability..Some stuff we discussed is not so easy to do, but half the battle is working out how the hell you get to the goalposts.

I've seen some odd complaints from people upgrading from 2.x to the shiny new 2.3.1 and wonder if the release notes from 2.1 have been missed. You should remove ardour2_ui.rc, ardour2_ui.conf and ardour.bindings from your ~/.ardour2 folder if you want to upgrade from 2.0.5 (or whatever your distro gave you last).. otherwise strange things may happen.

It rained for the entire week Mike was here, but when it finally stopped we noticed a waterfall that nobody had seen before. The beach had also changed completely.. rocks lying buried under the sand for decades were exposed again.
Sadly the waterfall is now a patch of wet on the cliff, but Mary grabbed a photo. What you can't see is the huge amount of spray coming out of the base.the new waterfallthe beach after the rain

fp!

After my self-hosted blog vaporised, I've decided to give blogger a try.
So far so good.

I Just spent a few days in a huge (3000 m^2) space recording things through a PA for a film music project. Great to see Nick Donkin again (stop frame king) who was, I worked out later, physically hitting the shutter button on every single frame of the shoot.
Unfortunately I didn't get a chance to measure an impulse response of the room, but at least I'm set up to do it properly next time.. which will be in an even larger warehouse.

It was wonderful to see the Triffids perform again, and not at all surprising that they filled the Metro for four nights. I popped in to a rehearsal and took some blurry photos.
Here are the not-so-blurry ones. Apologies to missing members.
